T minus 4 weeks....

This is it people...the countdown is on until the Poitras/Chudyk household completely vacates the City of Edmonton. It's a scary fucking thought. We've only just begun to pack, starting with the books and games. We're still on the lookout for a 2 bdrm apartment in Burnaby, not to mention a job for Rod.

But this weekend we took some time to enjoy ourselves. Friday was Rod's 30th birfday, and we decided to throw a party at the BP's party room on Whyte Ave. It was a combination Rod's birfday/Rod's last day of work/Rod and Fancy Bon Voyage party, and we got to see some people we haven't seen in what seems like a million years. It was good times.

For about a month, I was agonizing over what to get Rod, wanting to spoil him and top the iPod Nano from xmas. This is the first time I've had a real job with real money since we've been together, and who knows how long it will be until I'm in this position again, so I wanted to go out with a bang. Finally it came to me...his precious request for an LCD monitor. I settled on one quickly, getting the 19 inch Samsung 930B model, but getting the damn thing was hard because there were so few at Futureshop, and in the span of 2 weeks, the price went up from $359 to $449, but Staples came through with one for $412, plus the taxes and warranty. Then my parents came through with a wireless keyboard and mouse set, so Rod got absolutely spoiled for his Birfday. His World of Warcrafting has just become much more visually stimulating.

Also on Friday, we signed away our apartment here for April 30th, so it's official, for now we are, on paper at least, Homeless. The downside is that the landlord can come in and show the suite at their discretion, and they didn't waste any time, telling us they were showing yesterday afternoon, so we had to scurry to clean up a bit, and then make ourselves scarce for 4 hours. That wasn't a problem though, because yesterday was all about the shedding. We left with a full car of stuff to donate, pass on, recycle, etc., and we can home with an empty car. It felt good to get that done at least, and it won't be the last time we see the Goodwill over the next 4 weeks.

So far the packing it not happening quickly, as all that's packed is most of the books and most of the board games. But today I'll go buy a bunch of bubblewrap to kickstart the process. Come hell or highwater, we're going to be ready to go with the first of two full truck in 2 weeks! So much to do in the meantime. I've made the move between provinces before, whereas Rod's never really made a big move (because his parents are an hour and a half away, most of Rod's childhood memories are there), so I'm interested to see how Rod handles it.

Stay tuned for a running commentary on the ups and downs of the move.
